Raise your hand if you are stupid

In his recent book Just How Stupid Are We? Rick Shenkman makes a few good points and some interesting observations but overall I find the book rather disappointing. His data are often anecdotal, there are no footnotes, some of the references at the end are good but in general they seem incomplete.
The biggest problem for me is that the book reads as just another liberal Democratic rant about “Americans must be stupid since they vote for Republicans.” I don’t think this sort of thing belongs in the classroom. I personally think Democrats can be just as stupid as Republicans and neither party goes far enough in advancing the public interest.
I am concerned with how we make decisions, how we get information; how we act politically I don’t think those issues or concerns are limited to one party or political inclination. We all need to improve the level, and results, of our political discourse. Not just them.
