Ideology and Preference

“I prefer ideologies coming from the left instead of the right “

Sure, I prefer them too. But many other people prefer ideologies on the right. As a result I have to insist that it is not about preference. Preference is a kind of intellectual laziness—which opens the door to things like Fox News, the New York Post, and Ann Coulter. We absolutely have to have higher standards than personal preference. That is the problem with writers like Chris Hedges, he may arrive at an answer that I like, but his method is flawed. It is propaganda in Arendt’s sense—repetition and consistency instead of contingency and empiricism.
