Nixon in China

I saw a production of Nixon in China about a year ago. The sets were great. The libretto is actually pretty funny and the music was okay to listen to on a CD. But to sit through more than three hours of slow moving monotony was too much. My wife fell asleep and I could not wait for it to end. After that night I can’t listen to any minimalist influenced music for more than five minutes. I really love contemporary music, but this just bored me to death.

On Sunday I get to see Kurt Weill’s Mahogonny and the rarely performed The Tzar Has His Photograph Taken.
