Why the Civil War? Front Royal Version
This may have been one of the most thoroughly documented events in history. With the advent of mass media, it was almost certainly the most documented event up to the time. It was recorded in countless photographs, drawings, illustrated newspapers, songs, stories, diaries and memoirs. These diaries and memoirs make it particularly interesting as you get some many different perspectives on the same events from a wide variety of sources. It is especially poignant wandering the streets of Front Royal where many of the wars most colorful writers cross paths.
Lucy Buck, Belle Boyd, John Mosby, Tom Ashby, Jed Hotchkiss have all left traces all over town and in many respects still seem to live here even today.
